March 8th International (Working) Women’s Day

Today was created by the Women’s Socialist Movement on March, 19th, 1911. It started in the late 1800’s as women all across the globe fought for their right to work and to be recognized for their work in the world. It has been recognized by, and is now, promoted by the United Nations. Yes, women are due credit for what they have accomplished and created in a world that for a very, very long time tried to bury their efforts and struggles.

How to celebrate – List the accomplishments women have added to our society. Name as many famous women as you can. Give credit to who deserves credit.

January 27th National Punch Clock Day

January 27th National Punch the Clock Day

The time clock was invented by Willard Bundy in 1888 in Auburn, New York as a way to better keep track of his employees work schedule. At the time (Pun intended) it seemed like a great idea. Employees punch into the clock when they arrived, punched out for lunch and such and then back in when going back to work. Finally they would punch out when they left for the day. In theory this worked out great, until it was figured out that those employees had to remember all the steps to make it work. Since then, you don’t see a punch clock being used much anymore, which is probably a good thing.

How to celebrate – Read about the punch clock days. If you still have a punch clock at work, don’t forget to use it! Find a job where you are trusted.

November 30th Stay At Home Because You Are Well Day

I am not sure this day really applies anymore. It’s another one of those really useful days created by the people at Wellcat but with the virus threatening us at every turn and many people working from home this days it seems sort of pointless. Yes, it use to be we would stay home from work when we were sick and the idea was to stay home when you could actually enjoy the home you have created. Now a lot of us stay at home way too much! So many choices, so few places to go! Perhaps today should be stay at home because you have to day!

How to celebrate – Take the day off from work. Go into work because you are well today. Love your home.

October 16th Bosses Day

We all have a boss in our lives, even if we don’t have a job! Well today is the day we celebrate them and give them their due. There may be times when you don’t like them all that much but then, you don’t have the same responsibilities that they have or the same goals they must attain. The higher you get on the work chain the more that is expected of you. Today was created by Patricia Bays Haroski who honored her boss at State Farm Insurance in Illinois in 1958. She registered it with the Chamber of Commerce making sure the day was recognized. Of course her boss was her father so it wasn’t all that difficult for her to show her affection for her boss.

How to celebrate – Honor your boss (Like them or not) . Try to understand the demands placed on your boss. Try to honestly see yourself as your boss sees you.

August 5th Work Like A Dog Day

Today can mean a lot of different things to different types of dog owners. There are breeds that work hard for their owners, others not so much. However, the general idea concerns working hard until getting a job done. And most dogs will do that, they will work hard to accomplish what they want to get done and then normally take a good long nap afterwards! That’s okay by me because I both love dogs and naps!

How to celebrate – Watch your dog work and then copy it. If you are going to do a job, do it well. Let your tongue hang out and pant after you’ve finished doing what you have to get done.

June 26th Take Your Dog To Work Day

June 26th Take Your Dog To Work Day

Since 1999, people have been celebrating today by taking their best friend to work with them. It was created by Pet Sitters International probably because they need a day off! Your dog loves you and wants to be where ever you are. They will do whatever you want them to do, hopefully, as long as they get the chance to be with you. They don’t really ask for too much more. So take your dog to work today with you. I guarantee your day will be better.

How to celebrate – Buy your dog a suit or dress so they are properly clothed when you go into work. Train your dog to do things for you at work. Make sure you take a water bowl with you.

May 15th National Bike To Work Day

The League of Wheelmen began in 1880. The idea back then was to have an organization that fought the prejudices against those who rode bikes. Over the years it has become the League of American Bicyclists who promote using bikes to help with the environment, health and to slow down life a little so people can enjoy it. There is a Bike Month, Week and today (Bike To Work Day). It always falls on the 3rd Friday of May when, hopefully, the weather is better. Riding your bike to work has it’s challenges but it is worth it, provided work isn’t a 100 miles away.

How to celebrate – Ride your bike to work. If you don’t have a bike, get one! Plan your route to work so it’s safe and you get to enjoy things you might not normally see.

June 21st Take Your Dog To Work Day

This could get a little messy, but who cares… take your best friend to work today. Bring a little snack and a bowl for water and your set! You can take them for a walk at lunch and any other breaks you get during the day. Who knows, nay be your dog will inspire you to some great revelation that will earn you a promotion or raise. To me, it is better than Take Your Cat To Work Day because you’ll end up spending your entire day trying to find them. But a dog generally stays by your side and sleeps. A really bad idea would be combining the two days, no one would get anything done. And if you happen to be a skyscraper window cleaner, maybe not taking any animal to work with you is a good idea. Today was created in 1999 by Pet Sitters International, ironically a business where take your dog to work day is your work.

How to celebrate – Take your dog to work! Make sure it’s okay to take your dog to work. Work at home today so you can have your pet with you and not upset anybody.

April 1st International Fun at Work Day

Don’t you really wish that everyday was Fun at Work Day? I do. And now it’s available to you… so have some fun! It is April Fool’s Day as well so you should be able to get away with just about anything! We here at Unboxing the Bizarre are going to have a party, of sorts. We are going to party at work all day long! First, because we believe it’s better to work in a fun environment and second, because it’s our CEO’s birthday! Talk about your April Fools Day! (Not that they are a fool but, well… you know) Anyway, do whatever you can to make your day at work more fun for yourself, and those around you. The day will go faster and you might actually find yourself getting more accomplished!

How to celebrate – Go in to work today with the attitude of having fun. Find the good in the work you do. Make everyone’s day little better by finding a way to make their day more fun. (Games, contests, poems, etc.)

March 22nd National Goof Off Day

Today was created by Monica “Moeller” Dufour with the help of her Grandfather William D. Chase. Monica lives in Davidson, MI. The general idea of today is that it becomes the one day of the year you are allowed to goof off. You know, don’t even bother to go into work… go fishing or play golf, go shopping or get your hair done, sleep in or go swimming (If it’s warm enough) You might want to check with your boss and make sure this is okay. There are some jobs where you really don’t want them to goof off, like a doctor, a pilot or the guy that makes your donuts in the morning. We all need goof off days so that we can pay better attention the rest of the year. William created his own calendar for the year, it did create a goof off day, so if you ever wanted to know what he was up to, you could just go to his calendar and find out!

How to celebrate – Goof off today (If you are able). Create your own calendar so you know what to expect. Go back to bed and forget today ever happened.
