Today can mean a lot of different things to different types of dog owners. There are breeds that work hard for their owners, others not so much. However, the general idea concerns working hard until getting a job done. And most dogs will do that, they will work hard to accomplish what they want to get done and then normally take a good long nap afterwards! That’s okay by me because I both love dogs and naps!
How to celebrate – Watch your dog work and then copy it. If you are going to do a job, do it well. Let your tongue hang out and pant after you’ve finished doing what you have to get done.
June 26th Take Your Dog To Work Day
Since 1999, people have been celebrating today by taking their best friend to work with them. It was created by Pet Sitters International probably because they need a day off! Your dog loves you and wants to be where ever you are. They will do whatever you want them to do, hopefully, as long as they get the chance to be with you. They don’t really ask for too much more. So take your dog to work today with you. I guarantee your day will be better.
How to celebrate – Buy your dog a suit or dress so they are properly clothed when you go into work. Train your dog to do things for you at work. Make sure you take a water bowl with you.
The League of Wheelmen began in 1880. The idea back then was to have an organization that fought the prejudices against those who rode bikes. Over the years it has become the League of American Bicyclists who promote using bikes to help with the environment, health and to slow down life a little so people can enjoy it. There is a Bike Month, Week and today (Bike To Work Day). It always falls on the 3rd Friday of May when, hopefully, the weather is better. Riding your bike to work has it’s challenges but it is worth it, provided work isn’t a 100 miles away.
How to celebrate – Ride your bike to work. If you don’t have a bike, get one! Plan your route to work so it’s safe and you get to enjoy things you might not normally see.
This could get a little messy, but who cares… take your best friend to work today. Bring a little snack and a bowl for water and your set! You can take them for a walk at lunch and any other breaks you get during the day. Who knows, nay be your dog will inspire you to some great revelation that will earn you a promotion or raise. To me, it is better than Take Your Cat To Work Day because you’ll end up spending your entire day trying to find them. But a dog generally stays by your side and sleeps. A really bad idea would be combining the two days, no one would get anything done. And if you happen to be a skyscraper window cleaner, maybe not taking any animal to work with you is a good idea. Today was created in 1999 by Pet Sitters International, ironically a business where take your dog to work day is your work.
How to celebrate – Take your dog to work! Make sure it’s okay to take your dog to work. Work at home today so you can have your pet with you and not upset anybody.
Don’t you really wish that everyday was Fun at Work Day? I do. And now it’s available to you… so have some fun! It is April Fool’s Day as well so you should be able to get away with just about anything! We here at Unboxing the Bizarre are going to have a party, of sorts. We are going to party at work all day long! First, because we believe it’s better to work in a fun environment and second, because it’s our CEO’s birthday! Talk about your April Fools Day! (Not that they are a fool but, well… you know) Anyway, do whatever you can to make your day at work more fun for yourself, and those around you. The day will go faster and you might actually find yourself getting more accomplished!
How to celebrate – Go in to work today with the attitude of having fun. Find the good in the work you do. Make everyone’s day little better by finding a way to make their day more fun. (Games, contests, poems, etc.)
Today was created by Monica “Moeller” Dufour with the help of her Grandfather William D. Chase. Monica lives in Davidson, MI. The general idea of today is that it becomes the one day of the year you are allowed to goof off. You know, don’t even bother to go into work… go fishing or play golf, go shopping or get your hair done, sleep in or go swimming (If it’s warm enough) You might want to check with your boss and make sure this is okay. There are some jobs where you really don’t want them to goof off, like a doctor, a pilot or the guy that makes your donuts in the morning. We all need goof off days so that we can pay better attention the rest of the year. William created his own calendar for the year, it did create a goof off day, so if you ever wanted to know what he was up to, you could just go to his calendar and find out!
How to celebrate – Goof off today (If you are able). Create your own calendar so you know what to expect. Go back to bed and forget today ever happened.
Did you ever have to punch a clock when you arrived at work? I had one job where I had to do that and boy did I hate it. If you were off by 1 minute you could be docked the entire hour. Fortunately for me, I didn’t work there very long.
They actually work against good business. If you work from 9 to 5, just to give a time reference, it was found that many people would put in extra time when they didn’t actually have to go punch a clock. When your life is being run like a finely tuned car, people tend to not be as flexible as when not every second is recorded.
Fortunately, most business’ do not use time clocks anymore. I am not sure about factories but I am sure the people there resent them just as the people that work retail or other types of jobs where they are given a certain amount of time. If you are worried about what the clock is saying, then you tend to worry more about it than the actual work you do.
But today is not hate the punch clock day, it’s a day to celebrate it! And I guess we should. It does have its advantages, primarily for the company paying out. It’ pretty hard to cheat against a clock unless you can get a lot of people working with you.
How to celebrate – See if you can find a punch clock still in use somewhere. Count your blessing for not having to use one. Use a punch clock for your teenagers at home.
You already know your dog is your best friend. They don’t care how you look, how you smell or what you are wearing, they are going to love you anyway. So why not take someone who loves you to work today!
Sure, they may be in the way a little and you will probably need to walk them at least once while you are at work but they will make you smile and definitely make your day better. They will also probably make your co-workers day better as well. (Unless they are allergic to dogs which you may want to check on before you take your dog with you.)
And dog are really smart too! They may even be able to figure out things you have been working on for months! Maybe they will even save your company from failing! You never know unless you try!
I love my dog… I really do. I would take her everywhere I go if I could. Since I mainly work in front of a computer I am also sure I bore her to death. But she will remind me when I have spent enough time at the computer and take me for a walk so I can get some exercise and a little fresh air. And more often than not, she is right!
There are dogs we humans take to work everyday as a part of life. Seeing eye dogs, special care dogs and military dogs risk their lives for us every day. They don’t care how many hours they put in, they don’t care about what the latest fashions are and they are not impressed by who makes the most money. These are our true friends and we really should take the time to thank them. We celebrate today, the first Friday after Father’s Day and was created by Pet Sitters International in 1999.
How to celebrate – Take your dog to work today. Spend more time with your dog. Give your dog a hug and thank them.
This should be a great day! Don’t Go To Work Unless it’s Fun Day is a great day to celebrate. Of course, that may be followed by, Don’t Go To Work Because You’ve Been Fired Day! The premise is pretty easy to follow and frankly boss’ at work should make your environment a fun environment because more will actually get done if it is.
And honestly, any job can be made fun for the employees with just a little imagination by the employers. Many employers and boss’ get very grumpy with age. They are tired of what they are doing or they have a lot of headaches they have to deal with over the course of the day. But the grumpier the boss gets the less employees do, and that is a proven fact.
Life is too short to just work for a pay check. If all it means to you is that you can buy more stuff then you are definitely in the wrong line of work. You can never buy your way out of a bad mood. Hence the old saying, “Money can’t buy you happiness”. But with that in mind, I wondered what some of the better, fun jobs might be.
Like a professional ice cream taster. Now it could get nasty if you are forced to try some new flavor like… broccoli ice cream. But for the most part, any ice cream is going to be good ice cream because the boss wants to sell it to a lot of people. So an ice cream taster probably generally has a fun job. They might get fat though.
So maybe a better job would be a surf board tester! I mean, who wouldn’t have fun sitting on a surf board, in the ocean with your dog at your side!?! Maybe not the job for someone with a fair skin that burns easily, or if there is a hurricane blowing, or if there are sharks about but otherwise… why not!?!
How to celebrate – If you are a boss, make work fun for your employees today. If you are an employee, make work fun for your boss today. Greet everyone you see today with a smile.
I doubt many of us remember punching the time clock at work. I always hated it because if you were a minute early you got no credit for it and if you were a minute late you got penalized. It was always a rush to the clock and if there was a line, you were in trouble.
A clock doesn’t lie, people, however, do. This was the single item that kept us all honest about when we really got to work, and when we really left. Of course, if we forgot to punch in, or forgot to punch out, we often lost the day of work completely.
I haven’t seen a time clock used in years, I suppose somewhere they are still in use. It seemed like even in my day that they were prevalent at factories or places where a certain amount of production was expected in a certain amount of time. Of course, since those days of the dinosaurs most companies have figured out incentives work better than clocks.
If you go back far enough even our cartoons had their characters using a time clock. It was funny back then because most people knew what a time clock was. It also taught the kids what they had to look forward to.
Well, I hear by the siren that it’s time for me to go. Don’t forget to punch the clock on your way out!
How to celebrate – Get a time clock to decorate your house! If you are still using a time clock at work find a job that has moved on to the 21st century. Put your kids on the time clock for their home.
