September 9th Teddy Bear Day

Awe, who doesn’t love a Teddy Bear!?! Who hasn’t owned a Teddy Bear? Who doesn’t still have a Teddy Bear? Oh, go on, admit it, somewhere in your house you have a Teddy Bear. And why not!?! They are cute, you can cuddle them and on those cold winter nights they are warm.

Teddy-Roosevelt-Was-the-Toughest-Person-Ever

It appears that when Teddy Roosevelt was President, 1902, he had the opportunity to kill a bear cub while he was out bear hunting in Yellowstone. He refused to shoot the cub (Good for him) and the Washington Post reported his act of kindness in their newspaper. Well, Morris and Rose Michtom owned a toy store filled with stuffed bears and guess what, they contacted the President and asked if they could name their bears after him

It sounded like a good idea to Roosevelt and off they went. Their bears became so successful that eventually their little toy store became the Ideal Toy Company, one of the largest toy companies in the world today.. And all because of a simple act of kindness.

And isn’t that what a Teddy Bear signifies? An act of kindness, a gift of love.  And so, whether you are a little girl, or boy, or a big girl, or boy, the memory of your Teddy Bear still serves as a part of your past, and maybe your future.

How to celebrate – Try and remember your first Teddy Bear. Go ahead and get yourself a new Teddy Bear, or maybe give a Teddy Bear to the one you love. Make sure any of your kids have their Teddy when they go to bed tonight.
