Oct. 1st National Fire Pup Day
Today we celebrate the Fire Pups that are not only our best
friends, but in many cases our heroes. In the 1700’s the Dalmatian was used by
the wealthy to protect their carriage while traveling. The dogs would run along
side the carriage, protecting the contents when it was stopped. In the 1800’s
the Dalmatian was used by fire departments as it was found they calmed the
horses used to transport the fire equipment. Well we don’t use horses for fire
engines anymore but the Dalmatian have stayed is use as a mascot for the fire department,
(Along with other breeds) and they still help with search and rescue.
How to celebrate – See how many fire stations in your community
still keep a dog. Read about the hero dogs that have saved man. Love your pup.
I have never made a secret of the fact that I love dogs. To me, they are man’s best friend. To leave them alone in the world, or mistreat them just because you can is wrong. They have never done anything to you so what’s the point. Even after abuse, many dogs still try to make up with their owners because they don’t understand what they did wrong. They are loving animals, true friends and make us better people. We rescued a dog that I absolutely adore. She is great! Why anyone in their right mind would have given up on her is beyond me, she never gave up on them. Today was created by the National Dog Day Foundation who strive to save 10,000 dogs a year, one day at a time.
How to celebrate – Love your dog. Rescue a dog. Be a friend to your best friend.
I can never get enough of dogs… I mean I like cats, birds and other pets, but there is just nothing like a dog. They offer love for no reason at all, accept whoever loves them and never, never lie. They become our children that stay home. And they constantly want to please.
They don’t ask for too much in return. A little food, a little water, maybe a walk or two and some attention… they do not need new dresses, want the latest toy or drive us into the poor house going to college for 12 years. Sadly they don’t live all that long often leaving us sad and lonely.
Today was created by the National Dog Day Foundation in the attempt to save 10,000 dogs a year from being destroyed. One Dog a Day is their motto, just one. To abuse a dog is being about as low as one can get. Yes they make mistakes, but don’t we all. At least they learn from them!
It is impossible to look in their eyes and not see love. As humans, we could learn a lot from them. When friends and family let you down or don’t stand by you for whatever reason… dogs don’t care. They will be there for you, with you and help you through some of the roughest times.
There is a friend waiting for you out there. They need you as much as you need them, they want you as much as you want them. What a joy it is to have a dog. What a joy it is to love a dog. Don’t ever give up on them because they will never give up on you.
How to celebrate – Love your dog. Rescue a dog. You already have a best friend out there, you just need to find them!
Everyone knows I love dogs. You can just look in their eyes and see the love there. They instantly become your best friend in the whole world and ask so little in return. A little food, water and love buys a lifetime friendship that will go with you anywhere you will allow it to go with you.
I think some of the mutts in the world are the most precious. They have nothing to prove, won’t win any ribbons and may get a bit goofy from time to time but they are always there. I wish they could live longer because the only bad thing about having a dog is losing them.
There is nothing wrong with a pure-breed. They are cool but a mutt just has that something extra. They aren’t perfect, they make mistakes and sometimes even do something bad but it is never intended. They really do only want to make you happy.
They laughs, they smile and they even cry… just like us humans. They play fetch, they cuddle and they are there for you when you need them. Please be there for them when they need you. Dogs are one of the best things in life, mutt or pure-breed. Love them and they are guaranteed to love you back.
How to celebrate – Consider adopting a homeless dog. Treat your dog like the friend they are. Make today all about your dog, I’ll bet you get more out of it than they do.
I love dogs. No they aren’t perfect and they do a lot of things we don’t like but they mean well, in most cases. And personally, I like mutts the best. Generally they are smarter than pure breeds. I mean, just like people, the ruling class often turns out some disturbing people. Instead of being beautiful they have to rely on their cunning and intelligence to get attention and make friends.
Call them what you will, half-breed, mixed breed, they don’t really care. They are filled with love and want to share every moment they can with you. And generally speaking, they are happier. They have nothing to prove, they are not showing off, and they learn giving hugs and kisses gets them more than just standing there and being pretty.
Sadly, many puppies are born that never find homes. Maybe they aren’t the most gorgeous creatures on the face of the earth but they can still be your best friend, and so often, they will protect you with their own lives if required.
Just like with people, it’s their soul that wins you over. After all, beauty is only skin deep, whether you are a person, or a dog.
How to celebrate – Love you dog. When adopting a dog, don’t just look at how pretty it is, get to know the dog you are about to let into your family. Take your best friend for a walk remembering, you are walking them… this is their time.
