June 23rd National Pink Day

June 23rd National Pink Day

For some reason, not officially recognized, women love the color pink. I am sure it has something to do with being soothing and yet still bright and cheerful. Men generally think a little less of it, I don’t think so much for the actual color but because it shows dirt so easily. Today, whether you are a man or a woman, is the day to wear pink and show your support for the color. It’s halfway between red, a color of deep passion, and white, a color of innocence. I expected to find some great cause for today and was surprised I did not find one. Pink is an anti-bullying color but has it’s own day so I guess today we just celebrate the color pink, why not? We also celebrate Pink Flamingo Day.

How to celebrate – Wear pink. Dye your hair pink. Wash your whites with reds and get an entire new pink wardrobe.

June 23rd Pink Flamingo Day

June 23rd Pink Flamingo Day

The Pink Flamingo was invented by Don Featherstone back in 1957. Yes, pink flamingos do exist in the world because they eat shrimp and that dyes their feathers pink, but that’s not what today is all about. It’s about that pink plastic flamingo created at the Union Products plants and sold from Leominster, Mass. Now Union Products has gone out of business and the rights to make pink flamingos sold to several other companies since then, but the city of Leominster created today to celebrate it’s claim to fame, created by Donald Featherstone. What a legacy!

How to celebrate – Buy a pink flamingo for your yard. Dress like a pink flamingo (since today is also National Pink day you can kill two birds with one stone!) Find some use for that plastic pink flamingo. Hold a Pink Flamingo Flocking Fundraiser.

April 8th International Day Of Pink

April 8th – International Day of Pink

Wear pink today. The idea of wearing pink is to stand up against bullying and discrimination. The world is a very complicated place and when we try to simplify it by grouping all people together as one, we are missing the point. We are not all the same, we do not have the same drives and desires and as long as we do not force our way of thinking on everyone around us, we are at peace. And peace is what most of us are looking for.

How to celebrate – Wear pink today. Accept instead of rejecting. Look at your own flaws instead of everyone else’s.

June 23rd National Pink Day

Real men do wear pink! So do real women! If you are in the pink it means you are feeling well and in tip top shape. Oddly, I found no association with breast cancer awareness but wearing pink generally means support for that movement. It’s a bright color and normally associated with feeling good. It’s hard to be mad at someone wearing pink, unless of course that someone is Pee Wee Herman! It is considered a cool color, unless it is hot pink and then it’s meant to stand out! You can’t exactly hide while wearing pink either, although a lot of army uniforms contain a shade of pink to blend better with mother nature. And then there are those of us that wear a lot of pink because we have washed our red clothes with our white clothes!

How to celebrate – Wear something pink! Paint your house pink. Feel good about the color, pink.

June 12th National Red Rose Day

June 12th – National Red Rose Day

The red rose is America’s favorite flower. It is supposed to represent love and romance. It is a beautiful flower and I have to admit, red is my favorite color so the combination works well. “Roses are red, violets are blue. Some people are allergic and it makes them achoo!” Roses signify many emotions, among the many colors are pink – admiration, yellow – friendship, white – innocence, orange – excitement, lavender – wanting a relationship to grow and peach – thank you. No matter what color rose you get, cherish it, but remember… red is the best.

How to celebrate – Send someone roses today. Plant some roses in your garden. Learn what all the colors of roses mean so you can send the best one for the emotion they represent.

June 23rd National Pink Day

Okay, so it’s National Pink Day. I hope you are feeling in the pink, meaning well. Pink is also breast cancer awareness. It’s the color of a baby girl. The mixture of white and red, blended to make an entirely third color, one that means something different to nearly everyone… and that’s okay!

Pink seems to always stand out. Bright or pale, people just seem to notice it. There is an innocence to pink, though it is not pure, a calmness though it can be very hot and feels like love though it isn’t as enveloping as the color red.

It is a fun color. It’s hard to depressed when you are in the middle of something pink. It goes with practically ever other color of the rainbow and is rarely over powering or overwhelming.

Naturally there are those that get carried away with their love of pink. That’s going to happen with any color. Pink hair, pink dogs and pink airplanes may be a little over the top but they aren’t exactly offensive either.

The perfect blend of innocents and passion, it can lead you in any direction but it will keep you calm and peaceful. After all, how many armies have you ever seen wearing pink!

How to celebrate – Wear something pink today. Discover the different shades of pink. Plant some pink flowers.

February 14th Valentines Day

Ah, the most romantic day of the year. It’s appropriate that they put it in winter where we can cuddle together without sweating!  Today it’s all about chocolate and flowers for the one you love. Of course if they are allergic to chocolate, flowers, perfume… well, good luck! In all honesty though, its just about showing your soul mate that you love them… something you should do everyday.

The day supposedly celebrates the Roman God of Fertility. The above is the Goddess because… well… the only God of Fertility I could find was Greek and he really stood out if you catch my drift. You can check him out if you like but be warned.

It is also known as the first day of birds mating season. I guess a lot of birds are  born Aquarius. Of course they have all flown south for the winter so I assume most birds are southern. You can check this out for yourself by listening to their Southern accent chirping.

In 2009 39,897 coules got together in Mexico and kissed for 10 seconds creating a new world record. It happened to be Valentines Day. Ironically February 15th, 2009 marks the most ever reported colds day. (Not really) Red and pink are the Valentine color. Of course pink is the mix of white and red so… red means energy, strength, power and danger (All things that get your heart beating faster) mixed with the innocense and purity of white. So red leads to white and ends up pink!

Whatever reason you choose, today is the day to show your lover that you love them. If you know them well enough, you know what you need to do. Over 1 billion dollars of chocolates sell today, I have no idea what the amount spent on flowers is but I am sure it’s close to the same. No matter what you buy, saying I love you is what really matters.

How to celebrate – Let your mate know you love them. Take your mate out for a nice dinner. Go buy some fish with the one you love.

June 23rd National Pink Day

Not to be confused with International Pink Day in April, today is National Pink Day (although I think they are pretty much the same). “Pink” has been around since the 14th century – the word, not the color. In 14th Century France,”To Pink”, was to decorate with a perforated or punch pattern.

During the Middle Ages, pink came into it’s own as a color. Probably some Knight washed his red flag with his white flag in hot water and the color pink was invented – LOL! Apparently no one wrote down when the color was actually created. It was occasionally used in women’s apparel but was more common in the art work of the Middle Ages when used for hands and faces. Christ as a babe was often wrapped in pink swadling.

The Rococo Period became the golden age of the color pink. Nearly every court was draped in pink to show nobility.  From 1728-1777 pastels became very popular with the people, perhaps boosted when King Louis XV’s mistress, Madame de Pompador, wore pink nearly exclusively to “please” her king.

In 1931 “Shocking Pink” was added to the spectrum to usher in a new era of color and fashion. Pink is, however so much more than just a color, it has all sorts of meanings.

The biggest today is, of course, breast cancer awareness. Which may in a round about way have some connection to being “In the pink”, an old saying about feeling at the top of your game, or at least what we wish would be the case.

To “see the pink elephant” is a polite way to say smeone is drunk.

Pink_Panther

To be tickled pink is to be thrilled or find something very enjoyable, maybe like the Pink Panther.

Then there is the “Pink Slip”, which none of us ever want to see – meaning you’ve been fired. There’s “Pink Collar” workers – which is what one might call “Women’s work” (I did not create this, just reporting). There’s “Pink Money” , which is symbolic of the money the LGBT puts into the community.

And the picture above – well… it’s just wrong.

The color pink is most associated with femininity, sensitivity, childhood, and romance. When pink is mixed with violet or black, it also means eroticism and seduction. The innocence of white mixed with the passion of a little red.

How to celebrate: Wear something pink today. Have some pink lemonade. Put up a pink flag, maybe with a little black lace or black ribbon to show your passionate about the day.
