We all know the story of how the Teddy Bear came about. Teddy Roosevelt, a hunter, came upon a cub during a hunting trip in 1902 but refused to shoot it. The Washington Post heard about it and made a cartoon up for their paper. Morris and Rose Michtom wrote for, and got, permission to make a stuffed Teddy Bear and it launched their company, The Ideal Toy Company.
Since then, the Teddy Bear has become a child, and adult, favorite. It’s hard to pass by a child’s bedroom without seeing a Teddy Bear stuffed in a corner somewhere, even if that child is an adult now.
And the Teddy Bear has served us well. It’s always there for us when we need it, it gives us someone to talk to when their is no human around. (They always listen better than humans do anyway) And they are always willing to receive, and sometimes return, a hug.
So why not treat them! They love the outdoors, actually they love any place so long as you are there with them. So take them on a picnic! Make sure you take honey along because that is their favorite, and maybe a peanut butter and honey sandwich, honey baked cookies and ice tea sweetened with honey.
And remember, even though they may have a family of their own… they always put you first. For today… put them first and take your Teddy Bear on a picnic.
How to celebrate – Plan a picnic today and don’t forget your Teddy Bear! Take the whole family on a picnic, yours and the Teddy Bear’s. Dig your Teddy Bear out of the corner and let it know you care.
