Today is the day to go for it! To reach beyond those limitations you place on yourself, and the world puts in your way. It could be something big, or something small… it doesn;t matter, it’s All Or Nothing Day.
How about running for office? Sure, maybe you are qualified or know nothing about any of the issues, maybe you don’t even know where you live but today… that’s doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you try for it! And frankly, you probably can’t do much worse than those already in office.
Or maybe you want to win a beauty pageant! It no longer matters if you are pretty or physically fit, all that matters is that you think you are beautiful in your own head. Why strive to be anything beyond the norm, that’s not what true beauty is all about… it’s about your soul.
Or maybe you want to be rich! I know I do. The reality is none of us is going to get there but maybe you can win at monopoly and pretend! After all, what would you really do with that stack of gold?
Or maybe your idea of going for it is going for nothing at all! There is nothing wrong with that. After all, if you start with nothing it’s a whole lot easier to go for something!
How to celebrate – Try doing something you have always wanted to do but have never tried to do. Reach for the stars! (You may need a ladder) Be happy with who you are and what you have.
Every day we take certain risks. Driving into work, taking a flight to an important meeting or eating at a restaurant we’ve never tried before. But there is something special about going for broke on something. Accepting either total victory or ultimate defeat.
It’s sort of like jumping from a high level for the very first time not knowing if your landing will be a reward or a major bust, the sort of bust that you don’t recover from. It is going for something without knowing you will win in the end.
Less deadly is that first date, but still a risk. Before getting there you have to decide to go for broke. You really don’t know anything about the other person and even less about how much you’ll like them, or not. But unless you try, you are likely to remain single the rest of your life.
It’s like eating snails. Either you do it, or you don’t. The idea of eating something that crawls around on the ground eating mold and algae. Go ahead, go for broke and gobble that sucker down! Just make sure to chew it up, otherwise it might crawl back up.
In the Old West men, and women, use to go for broke all the time playing cards. Win or lose the same danger was there, particularly since someone was more than likely going to actually end up broke! It’s the gamble, the risk of making something worth while enough to go for broke, win or lose.
How to celebrate – Find something in your life you are willing to go for broke for. Read stories about people who have gone for broke and won. See if you can remember anyone you have met going for broke.
You’ve just spent a year doing whatever it is that you do. Are you happy? Are you doing what you want to do? Is your relationship where you want it to be? Are there still choices you can make? Of course there are, you just need to decide to make them.
If your job is not the job you want, then change it. If you aren’t happy doing what you are doing you will be doing yourself, and probably your employer a great service by changing. No one succeeds doing things they don’t like doing. If you find your calling it won’t even seem like work, it will be more a joy. Yes money is important, but as the old saying goes… it’s also the root of all evil. It doesn’t mean you or your family have to suffer, it means make a plan to get yourself into something that is worth while to you. Pick out something attainable and then work your way towards it.
If your relationship is not where you want it to be, work on it to make it right. Sometimes the littlest of changes will take it where you want it to go. People normally treat others the way they want to be treated. By example, if they offer you a back rub read it that they would like the same in return. People rarely choose for others what they would not choose for themselves. Seeing things for what they are can be more important than standing your ground because you think you are right. Is it more important to you to win a battle and lose a war?
They say change is always for the better. I’m not sure I buy that one, perhaps it would be better said slight change is always for the better. That often means changing yourself, not trying to change others. Change the way you look at things, the way you accomplish getting to the end, ask yourself how others see something before you take the final look yourself. If major change is required, then do it but make sure you know what you are giving up in order to gain what you hope to change.
The key to everything is being decisive. Don’t commit 50% to anything unless you are only looking to get 50% back. It means that you are equally okay with failing as you are with succeeding. And never look back, you can’t change the past, living in the past does nothing for you or anyone around you. There are many things in life I wish would have worked out different but they all led me to where I am now and that is a reality I have to deal with, so do you. It is far better to take one step forward instead of looking over you shoulder at what is behind you.
How to celebrate – With the New Year just around the corner, make a list of things you want to accomplish in the new year and accomplish them one step at a time. Learn to do something new. Whether it is dancing, drawing or writing it doesn’t matter, show yourself you are till capable of doing things you never thought you could. Make new friends. Don;t forget the old ones but expand your horizon as you look to make things better for yourself, and those around you.
