There was a time when going fishing meant getting supper for the night. Not so much anymore, it’s become a sporting event more than proving a meal for the family. Most fishermen I know throw the fish back in the water after catching it, hoping the next time they go fishing they will catch a bigger fish and have a harder challenge. There is something about the calm and quiet of fishing. It becomes a time when we can think and reflect on life and get in touch with nature. In fact I know a lot of people who go fishing that hope they don’t even catch a fish!
How to celebrate – Go fishing. Learn what fish it is you are trying to catch. Enjoy being in nature.
What a wonderful way to get out and enjoy nature, get a little sunshine and have fun all at the same time! Go fishing! It’s another of those unofficial/ official holidays that doesn’t really matter if you celebrate or not. And why wait for just today!?! Really it’s okay to go fishing anytime! of course now that we are in summer it’s a little more fun than winter but there is always ice fishing! The key to the entire day of fishing is… don’t catch any fish! Then you’d have to gut them, skin them and fillet them even before eating them. The easiest way to accomplish this is, don’t put any bait on your hook! You can get all that fun stuff without any of the work to go along with it! You can still enjoy the sun, nature and your favorite eatery when the sun has set.
How to celebrate – Go fishing. Start your own fishing pond in your backyard. Rent a boat and go out on a lake or the ocean.
Today was created by Monica “Moeller” Dufour with the help of her Grandfather William D. Chase. Monica lives in Davidson, MI. The general idea of today is that it becomes the one day of the year you are allowed to goof off. You know, don’t even bother to go into work… go fishing or play golf, go shopping or get your hair done, sleep in or go swimming (If it’s warm enough) You might want to check with your boss and make sure this is okay. There are some jobs where you really don’t want them to goof off, like a doctor, a pilot or the guy that makes your donuts in the morning. We all need goof off days so that we can pay better attention the rest of the year. William created his own calendar for the year, it did create a goof off day, so if you ever wanted to know what he was up to, you could just go to his calendar and find out!
How to celebrate – Goof off today (If you are able). Create your own calendar so you know what to expect. Go back to bed and forget today ever happened.
Today is the day to do whatever you want, just because you can. You don’t need a reason, you don’t have to ask anyone, just dot it! (Making sure yo are doing something that others will not find offense or end up with you in jail) You feel like going fishing, well then, go fishing.
Who knows, maybe this time you will catch something more than a cold. Now if you are going to eat the fish, that’s fine, but if you aren’t, then set it free. There is no need in killing something just for the sport of it.
If you feel like giving someone a gift you don’t need a reason, just give it to them. Hopefully you’ll give them something they want, or hopefully they will accept it in the spirit it is given whether they like it or not. It doesn’t have to be a birthday or Christmas, not an anniversary or valentines day. Just give it because you want to expecting nothing in return.
Or give someone a hug! Like a brother or a sister. You can try to hug a total stranger but you might not get the results you hoped for! Everyone likes a hug, even Howie Mandel! But make sure they will accept it before knocking you out for trying it.
Or maybe you could sneak someone a kiss. Again, the key here is making sure that they will accept before you give it, otherwise it might end up with you getting a black eye! The day was originally created by Father Joseph J. Goodwin from Los Gatos, CA.. He created it as a movable holiday, probably hoping that every day could be a just because day.
How to celebrate – Start your day out by doing something unexpected for someone. (Make it something nice though.) Do something you have always wanted to do but have never gotten around to. Spend some time with someone you haven’t had the time to give lately.
Now that the winter has passed, the earth has started to turn green again and flowers are beginning to bloom. It’s time to get outside and enjoy the sun. There are all sorts of things you can do now that you couldn’t while there was snow on the ground. You could go fishing…
go swimming …
have a picnic …
or just stay home and swing in a hammock.
Whatever you choose, just enjoy the sunshine. Remember to wear sunblock!
