Dec. 18th Talk Like Buddy the Elf Day

December 18th Talk Like Buddy the Elf Day

Who would have thought that a simple comedy like “Elf” staring Will Farrell made back in 2003 can have created such a following all these years later. Buddy goes through the trials and tribulation of being a Human who thinks he is an Elf, acts like an Elf and talks like an Elf. He goes to find his father in New York City and, well… if you haven’t seen the movie I won’t spoil it for you. But if you haven’t seen the movie you are probably living under a rock. Today intends that you leave a message on your answering machine that makes it sound like you are Buddy answering the phone. Ah, who actually has answering machines anymore? Anyway the idea is fun, if a little annoying, and it kicks off the holiday season.

How to celebrate – Learn to speak like Buddy the Elf. Never give up on innocence. Visit the North Pole.

Who hasn’t seen Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) in “Elf”? Good, or bad, the character has launched itself into our society and in some way, gives us something to strive for. The movie came out in 2003 and is becoming a classic as we head into Christmas 2017.

October 30th National Candy Corn Day

It’s clear the holidays are upon us when we start to see candy corn in the stores and on people’s dining room tables. It is the traditional fall candy because… well, I don’t know why but that doesn’t really matter.

It use to be that every piece of candy corn tried to look like corn, it was always yellow, orange and white. I use to always eat the white tip off first. Today it can be any color which really confuses us old timers because it doesn’t look like corn anymore.

George Renninger and the Wunderle Candy Company first created candy corn, however it was the Goelite Candy company that first mass produced it. Today numerous companies produce candy corn and you can even produce it yourself. Here’s the recipe. However it may just be cheaper, and a lot easier, to just buy it.

And for those you who might like to drink your candy corn, warning this is alcoholic, here’s another recipe. See, candy corn has changed a bit over the years! But, it is still a favorite whether with kids or adults.

It’s also a favorite with Elves. As you can see it falls only under Syrup on their menu and ties with candy canes. Right there is a glowing endorsement!

How to celebrate – Start serving up the candy corn for the holidays. Always buy a little extra so there is some left over for the guests that visit. Make your own candy corn, or green beans, or broccoli, or asparagus, or…
