Oct. 10th World Sight Day
Today we celebrate our gift of sight. Not that life can’t be as valued if one has no sight but to get up every morning and see the day we have been given (also a gift) should bring you joy. The idea of the day is to encourage people to get eye exams and that is a good thing. Sometimes we take our eyesight for granted, but over the years as it changes and blurs you do need to get it corrected. You wouldn’t want to miss those sunrises, or sunsets, because you didn’t take the time to make sure the world really was as you saw it! They say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, beauty is there whether you see it or not, so make sure today you have the opportunity to see it for as long as you can.
How to celebrate – Get an eye exam. Look closely at things with the idea you may never see them again. Check out your prescription for your glasses.
Every morning one gets up, brushes their teeth, has a cup of coffee and combs their hair… that is, if they have hair. There are advantages to not having hair, it’s a least one step less every morning of your daily routine. It also tends to make you look meaner so people don’t mess with you as much and some think it makes a person look smarter. It has become very fashionable to be bald. I am not sure why. Many women are choosing to be bald these days as well. It does make a statement! One true advantage is that you are generally cooler in the summer (though you will have to wear a hat to keep from getting sun burned), but then in the winter, your head is colder. Compromise, wear one side of your head with hair, the other without. You’ll get noticed!
How to celebrate – Wear a bald cap for a day to see how you would look. See how many celebrities you can name that are bald. Be free!
Mud… well, it’s always been there so humans had to find uses for it. It has always been good for minor skin issues, like bee stings and some rashes. (It also causes some rashes) It has been used to build walls since when it dries, it’s pretty strong. It’s used in combat to make soldiers invisible to the enemy and, of course, it’s something fun for kids to play in. However, someone figured out that it was really good to put all over your face to refresh your skin and open your pores. My guess is, some soldier came away from battle covered in mud and when he washed it off he must have remarked how beautiful he felt. From there, it got passed on to civilians who agreed once they tried it. Now it is a regular facial component. Naturally you need to use clean mud.
How to celebrate – Try a mud pack facial. Go outside and play in the mud. Make some mud pies!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So behold young knave, everything is beautiful… in it’s own way. Gosh, I think I’ve heard that before somewhere. Anyway, today is a day to find the beauty in those things around you.
For some it might be a beach or crystal clear water. Maybe a lush island somewhere filled with tropical flowers and beautifully tanned native inhabitants. Warm summer breezes, golden sunsets and the sound of the waves gently crashing against the shore.
Or maybe it’s a beautiful field of wheat swaying in a gentle breeze and showered in sunlight. Better yet are the cool evenings with the moon shining down on the amber fields of grain. Maybe even floating over them in a hot air balloon.
The point here is, beauty can be found in anything if you just look for it. When you wake up this morning think of all the good things instead of the bad and you will find yourself having a beautiful day.
How to celebrate – Find the beauty in the day. Study a painting you can keep in your head. Smile and make someone see the beauty in the day.
Well let’s hope today was created to beat yesterdays Have A Bad Day Day. Because most days can be beautiful if we let them be. True, sometimes you have to look for the beauty and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What I think is beautiful maybe be entirely different from what you think is beautiful, that doesn’t make one better than another. just different.
Some find the oceans beautiful, some the mountains, others find a snow covered field beautiful and some a field of wheat. The point is, you can find beauty in anything if you just look for it.
Writers write about it, singers sing about it, artists try to paint it, sculpt it or mold it to express what beauty is. The facts is, beauty is what you make it. Having a beautiful day is what you make it, maybe by looking at the same old things in a different way.
We are surrounded by beauty and the best way to find it is by not looking so hard for it.
How to celebrate – Make a list of all the beautiful things you see today. Surround yourself with beautiful things. Think beautiful thoughts.
Well today is the day to appreciate the hairstyle you have, and those around you. Some, however, may take a bit of getting use to.
Now we all want to be attractive to someone. To some it may consist of looking like what we might consider normal, to others it’s standing out in some fashion or the other. Wearing different looking clothes doesn’t really stand-out all that much anymore. So how else can you get someone’s attention? Why not change your hair, it’s almost sure to get you noticed.
I mean, wearing something that looks like a giant lizard is sitting on your head is one way to do it. It does say something about your personality and maybe even your character. Some will think it’s really cool while others will cross the street to try and avoid you.
There’s also that Statue of Liberty look that shows your patriotism, and maybe insanity. You also have to be careful not to put out someone’s eye walking to close to you. The nice thing about this “do” is that you can easily clean those ceiling fan blades without having to get any tools or ladders.
Of course, most of us just horse around with our hair. Trying different things until we find something that works for us.
How to celebrate – Create your own unusual hairstyle today. Go to beauty school to learn how to fashion hair. Buy a bunch of wigs and see how long you can fool people.
