January 15th National Hat Day

Can you imagine going through life without every wearing a hat? I can’t. We wear hats when it rains, with various costumes and naturally soldiers wear all sorts of hats (Helmet being the most important) We wear hats when riding bikes, motorcycles or racing cars. We wear them when the sun is shining, at construction sites and when playing baseball. So I ask again, can you imagine going through life without ever wearing a hat? Maybe, if you don’t have a head!

How to celebrate – See if you can name all the different types of hats. Count how many hats you own. Make a special hat display.

January 14th Dress Up Your Pet Day

Today was created by Colleen Paige, a pet style Expert. Note, she is not listed as a Pet Lover because I do not know a single pet that likes to get dressed up. Now before people think I am being all negative, I not. After all, how many men like getting all dressed up? They do it, but most don’t like it! And so will your pet. If it’s really cold out then maybe it’s even good for your pet, but I doubt they will think so. So hurry up, take your picture so your pet can get back to being what they really are, a pet.

How to celebrate – Dress up your pet. Make an outfit for your pet. Enter your picture in a dress up pet contest.

January 13th Make Your Dream Come True Day

We all have dreams, things we want to accomplish for ourselves, our families and our friends. Some of us are lucky enough to reach them, some of us never do… they say the trying is the most rewarding part of reaching your dreams but I think that is meant for those of us that never reach them. The thing about dreams is you can dream up anything. So what do you do if you actually accomplish your dream? Well you dream up something else. I think maybe the most important thing about today is, don’t step on someone else’s dream.

How to celebrate – Dream. Figure out the steps required to make your dreams come true. Help someone else reach their dream.

January 12th National Pharmacist Day

Who knows us better? Our doctor or our pharmacist? Well lets hope both know us pretty well… or maybe even better yet, not at all! A Pharmacist is an expert with the chemicals that make us feel better or keep us from getting worse. It is a special art and an important one. We often don’t see the Pharmacist as they are busy making our medicine, We see the Pharmacist assistant instead unless we have questions they can’t answer. Pharmacists are one of the more forgotten heroes of our lives, celebrate them on this day.

How to celebrate – Thank any Pharmacist you know. While at the drug store, buy a card and give it to the Pharmacist. Learn what it takes to become a Pharmacist.

January 11th Step In A Puddle and Splash Your Friend Day

This is a day that if you aren’t careful you may lose a few more friends than you gain. When we all were kids we probably didn’t mind getting splashed by our friends, we may have even looked forward to it, and returning it. But as we get older, not so much. Weddings, funerals and high society affairs are not places to splash a friend. In fact, I can’t think of a good place to splash a friend except maybe at the beach and even then, you’d better take care.

How to celebrate – Think of all the people you could splash but then, don’t do it. Go to the beach. Look for more friends.

January 10th Bittersweet Chocolate Day

This is a bitter-sweet day… literally! Don’t you just love things that are conflicted with each other! I mean, really… how can something be both bitter and sweet at the same time!?! Sweet and salty I understand but, bitter and sweet at the same time?

And even more confusing… chocolate is a vegetable! Ok maybe not, but it’s a bean and aren’t beans vegetables???? When served with almonds, which are good for you are well, then is a bittersweet chocolate almond bar a health food? Well, if not for all the sugar it might be. So maybe that’s the bittersweet part of it, it could be healthy but it’s not!

In my day, it was a part of a thing called bridge mix and of course, you had to be playing cards to even bring that out! Of course there were those pesky raisins mixed in, and other kinds of nuts… maybe that’s why they called it a mix!

It’s a good day when bittersweet chocolate is something to celebrate!!!

How to celebrate – Enjoy some bittersweet chocolate. Create a concoction with bittersweet chocolate and other food items like nuts. Make a bittersweet chocolate cake!

January 10th Peculiar People Day

Would you rather be like everyone else in the world or would you rather be considered… peculiar? Most of us think of peculiar as being bad but it doesn’t have to be. It can also mean someone who is just out of step with the rest of the world and sometimes that can actually be good. Would you call Albert Einstein peculiar? How about Martin Luther King? Jesus? Mohamed? Buddha? Accept your own, and others, uniqueness as a good thing with possibilities instead of something bad and limiting. After all, those who are the most peculiar are generally the most interesting as well.

How to celebrate – Learn what makes you peculiar to others. Celebrate your oddities. Live and let live.

January 9th Play God Day

Now this day can be taken one of two ways. In the bad way, one would play as if everything the did was God like and others should show the respect they show the real God. The good way, is to do things the way you think God would if He (Or She) was here. Helping the sick, feed those that are hungry, giving hope to the hopeless. If you stop and think about it today can either be a really bad day, or a really good day depending on how you accept the challenge… but then, isn’t every day just like that anyway.

How to celebrate – Treat others the way you want to be treated. Before doing anything that affects someone else, ask yourself how God might handle it. Power can be dangerous in the hands of those who don’t know how to use it.

January 8th Bubble Bath Day

I’ve explained my position on baths before. I do not understand how you get clean by sitting in the dirty water you have created but forgetting that, a bubble bath can be fun. (Just take a shower first) All those bubbles, the scents used to make them and, of course, the rubber ducky! They can be relaxing or romantic, they help break fever and get you all wrinkly. So I guess a bubble bath can be fun, after all isn’t that why you add the bubbles to it? Splish-Splash the day away sitting in the tub, but you really should wait for a Saturday night.

How to celebrate – Take a bubble bath. You can try a bubble shower but it’s not as effective. Remember your favorite rubber ducky!

January 7th Old Rock Day

If you stop and think about it, aren’t all the rocks you find at least potentially old? I mean, some are really, really old but all must have been around for sometime. So, what do you do with an old rock? If you stop and think about it there are a lot of uses, for example build a fort with them, make jewelry out of them, start a rock collection, skip them across water, climb on them… they can be used for just about anything! You can find fossils in them, use them as a weapon or just admire them from afar.

How to celebrate – Make friends with a rock today. Collect rocks from every state or country you visit. Start building your dream home, out of rocks of course.
