This is going to be a sweet day, having to stuff ourselves with layers of yogurt or ice cream, surrounded by fruit and whipped cream… but then, someones got to do it so step up and take the hit yourself! You can even add some crushed nuts or granola just to keep it healthy if you like.
You honestly don’t have to use fruit, it can be chocolate which is actually a vegetable. Or broccoli, or peas or lima beans. (I don’t suggest potatoes because it’s hard to tell them from the yogurt or ice cream) Then again, maybe fruit works better.
And then there is the exotic parfait too. You may want to make sure first that you aren’t allergic to fruit you are using. That could kind of spoil the parfait for you. You can use the recipe above using any fruit of your choice. Make sure to write it down because it’s pretty easy to forget.
Adding things like mint and cookies to the parfait does make it a little more difficult and adds to the choices you have to make but I’m pretty sure you can handle it. The parfait is refreshing, relatively light and works well as a snack or a dessert.
Besides, you show a little culture by eating a parfait… that is if you make it with yogurt, not ice cream. I suppose you could use puddling as well. In fact, if you mix anything with a putty type substance mixed in I guess it clarifies as a parfait.
How to celebrate – Have a parfait today. Make up your own parfait (Though that might be a little hard to make it original). Do not use condensed soup to make you parfait.
Well, do we come from monkeys or not? According to Charles Darwin’s “On The Origin Of Species”, published in 1859, we are. That’s one theory, of course there are others. Are we related to apes? There is no doubt that there is some physical attributes that seem to blend the species together but then there are others that separate them.
In 1974, Australopithecus Afaresis Lucy’s skeleton, was discovered and seems to be a little more closely resembling both species. There is no doubt that Homo sapiens have evolved over time but did we come from monkeys?
Does this look like anyone you know? Uncle Bob, Cousin Bill, Aunt Dorothy? Do you have any family photos that you sort of wonder about? Probably not because man supposedly evolved before there were cameras.
Now it is true that a monkey does enjoy a beer from time to time, maybe a cigar and loves to sit on the couch watching football and scratching himself. So how do you describe yourself? Ape or man, man or ape?
In the end, we are all family and that is what matters most. Gather those close to you and love them whether you are man or beast.
How to celebrate – Read about Charles Darwin. Read the Bible. Go have a beer.
So Thanksgiving is over, well… most of it anyway, and so now starts that time tested celebration of Black Friday! Well maybe not time tested but certainly becoming traditional and retailers everywhere thank you. They do most of their years business today, and in the days to follow until Christmas.
In a number of ways, this is a good thing. With retailers suffering because of online dales, this is a day that helps keep their doors open. Soon, there may be nothing but online shopping and you will only have small pictures on the internet to choose those things that may, or may not, please your whim.
No more malls, no more mom and pop stores, just giant mega internet conglomerates that ship to you even the most personal items. Well, it’s our choice… as it should be. Have fun today looking up close at those things you will soon be forced to order online.
Put on your suit of armor and brave the crowds. Go into the battle of wits and patience, the throngs of other barbarians you share a single check-out line with and claim your glory of winning the prize! Oh, and don’t forget your change!
How to celebrate – Plan your Black Friday like you would a vacation, so you don’t miss a thing. Get cash on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Take some Thanksgiving left-overs for a snack along the way.
Today is one of America’s favorite days, Thanksgiving. We eat all kinds of food, watch football games and whatever feature movie is on television in the evening. We look forward to it every year, always say we will eat less and get along with all those relatives we don’t get along with the rest of the year.
We do, tend to forget that is was a celebration for Europeans that came to America and were starving before the Native Americans came to their rescue. It was 1621 when the Pilgrims and the Native Americans sat down at the same table and shared their food, culture and concerns.
Of course it didn’t last very long. Soon the Europeans would keep coming and driving the Native Americans further and further west until there was no place left to go. Part of the problem with allowing history to move forward is that we tend to forget why it moved forward. We find fault with each other instead of trying to understand something that we cannot go back and change anyway.
Maybe things happen because they were supposed to happen. Blaming anyone and trying to make them pay for something they could not change is pointless, and dangerous. We are not the same people that lived back in the days when we were thankful, truly thankful, so we have to come up with our own reason for being thankful. Maybe we should be thankful that we have moved forward, that people have changed and recognize their errors and move on from there.
However… did you know the first Thanksgiving mashed potatoes were not served? That didn’t happen until the Irish came to America and brought potatoes with them! And what is Thanksgiving without mashed potatoes!?! There’s something to be thankful for!
How to celebrate – Do your best to have a Happy Thanksgiving. Give to the food banks to make sure others have a Happy Thanksgiving. Make a list of everything you have to be thankful for.
Today was created by Brian and Michael McCormack in an effort to show how much better the world could be if we all just stopped and said hello to each other. It was 1973 and war was raging between Egypt and Israel and the idea was “greet ten people for peace”.
I think, for what it’s worth, that saying hello to everyone you see is a great idea. It certainly doesn’t cost you much and who knows what you might find out about someone else, and yourself, by simply saying hello.
I watch most people walk around with their heads down, refusing to look up and make eye contact with another person. Maybe it’s because they said hello to someone, or looked someone int the eye and something went wrong. Or maybe we are afraid they might want something from us.
Take the handshake. It came out of ancient days when a friendship was forged with an enemy, or possible enemy. One would extend their hand showing they had no weapon in it, the other would do the same. Far too often today the handshake begins the problems. We look at the person we are shaking hands with as someone who should give their all for our cause… not just to show they aren’t going to try and kill us. Maybe we are looking for too much.
I wonder how many simple “hellos” might lead us to something more if we just tried. After all, every friend you have today started with a… “hello”.
How to celebrate – Say hello to at least ten people today. (Better strangers than friends you have already) Say hello to someone you haven’t talked to in years. Learn “hello” in several languages and great people with their native language.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So behold young knave, everything is beautiful… in it’s own way. Gosh, I think I’ve heard that before somewhere. Anyway, today is a day to find the beauty in those things around you.
For some it might be a beach or crystal clear water. Maybe a lush island somewhere filled with tropical flowers and beautifully tanned native inhabitants. Warm summer breezes, golden sunsets and the sound of the waves gently crashing against the shore.
Or maybe it’s a beautiful field of wheat swaying in a gentle breeze and showered in sunlight. Better yet are the cool evenings with the moon shining down on the amber fields of grain. Maybe even floating over them in a hot air balloon.
The point here is, beauty can be found in anything if you just look for it. When you wake up this morning think of all the good things instead of the bad and you will find yourself having a beautiful day.
How to celebrate – Find the beauty in the day. Study a painting you can keep in your head. Smile and make someone see the beauty in the day.
Leave it to the people at Wellcat.com to create a Bad Day Day… and then copyright it so they can make money from it. Their idea was to get clerks at stores and banks and such to wish you a bad day instead of a good day. I guess the idea of wishing someone something good is not welcome at Wellcat.
And to copyright it!?! Why? I doubt it’s like anyone else is going to steal the day from them. And just how do they make money from it. All those bad day greeting cards, buttons and balloons.
I think we are all capable of having a bad day without Wellcats help. Asking us is a bit beyond good taste. But there you go, if you truly do have a bad day, let Wellcat know about it.
Well, cats, ignore them. Go ahead and have a good day and defy them! After all, you might have to pay them for it if you do have a bad day.
How to celebrate – Try and figure out what is wrong with the people at Wellcat.com. Have a good day. Create a good day meter.
