When you walk into a business do you just assume everyone there is getting paid? You might be surprised to find out that is not the case if you really look into it. Schools, hospitals, sporting events all use volunteers to help support their staffs and quite often they are in the front lines to great the public.
Schools can never have enough staff. Not when dealing with children. (They definitely do hire too many support people. How many men does it take to change a light bulb? 6, 1 to change the light and 5 to tell them how to do it!) However when it comes to dealing with the children there can never be too many.
It’s often difficult to get a smile from someone working in a hospital, the one place where a smile can really do some good. That is where volunteers really excel. I wonder how many lives have been saved by the act of a simple smile or a gentle touch.
And groups like Habitat For Humanity gives by building homes for people that could not have one otherwise. A good life starts at home. If you don’t have a home you are walking the streets looking for something to do, something that generally leads to no good.
Most of us have some extra time available to us. Instead of shopping or playing golf, (Not that there is anything wrong with either of those) maybe by volunteering you can make a difference in someone’s life. That will actually make a difference in your own life as well.
How to celebrate – Find a cause where you can volunteer. If you find a cause and no organization to help it, start a volunteer program of your own. Thank a volunteer to lunch.
