March 1 – National Pig Day

National Pig Day March 1st

The pig is one of the most intelligent animals on the face of the earth. In 1772 a pig named “Learned Pig” was believed to be able to tell time and count, among other tricks he was taught. There are hundreds of breeds of pigs, apparently most, if not all, coming from The Eurasian Wild Boar. The day was created by two sisters, Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynne Rave in 1972.

How to celebrate – Get a pig for a pet! Form a pig parade. Take a pig to a school or nursing home to show off its talents.
